Sofia Kay is a Legal Analyst at Benach Collopy, LLP. Sofia  assists attorneys in preparing, filing, and monitoring all types of complex immigration cases, including asylum, deportation, family/employment-based immigration petitions, consular processing of non-immigrant and immigrant visas, waivers of inadmissibility, and naturalization applications.

Prior to joining Benach Collopy LLP, Sofia was a senior paralegal for the litigation practice at Maggio-Kattar, PC.

Sofia was born in Grozny, Soviet Union (USSR). Before coming to the United States, she worked as a lawyer for Human Rights Organization Memorial in Russia. At Memorial she provided legal assistance on behalf of Internally Displaced Persons (“IDPs”) from Chechnya and North Ossetia and filed cases in Russian courts and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) regarding human rights violations committed during the military conflict in North Caucasus.

Sofia holds a Law Degree from the Chechen State University in Grozny, Russian Federation. In December 2020, Sofia received her L.L.M. (Masters of Laws) from American University.

After obtaining her U.S. Master of Law degree, she worked for RefugePoint as a resettlement expert at UNHCR office in Lilongwe, Malawi where she conducted interviews of Congolese refugees in Dzaleka refugee camp for resettlement consideration.

Although Sofia is not yet licensed to practice law in the United States, her knowledge of immigration systems and human rights is vast.. Sofia is fluent in Russian and Chechen.
